After the jungle trip, we’re heading to Tangkahan. Tangkahan is about 40 km (2.5 hours) from Bukit Lawang. We go there by driving a Jeep . It is a muddy and/ or rocky road, so our journey is an adventure off road.During this trip to Tangkahan, we drive through palm oil plantations and many villages.We can stop on the way to see a very beautiful forest view from a distance. Tangkahan is called a” hidden paradise”, with beautiful forest which we can see from the edge of the river. There are two big rivers flowing. The Batang river and the Bamboo river. The river is very clean and fresh and a great place to swim.
At the bamboo river is there a hot spring, so we could go there to enjoy two different types of waters. We could also visit the waterfalls or beaches butterfly on the river.
On the Batang river we can do cube down the river and have lunch at the riverside while enjoying the Gelugur waterfall. This waterfall is very pretty and bigger in comparison with the waterfalls of the Bamboo river.You can have a bath in the waterfall. After that we can do activities such as bathing elephants.
Pick up from Medan hotel/airport. Drive four hours to Bukit Lawang by AC car. Once arrived at the hotel ,rest of the day is free for leisure,you can swim or take a beautiful walk to the local village nearby.
We start trekking after breakfast around 9.00 am.You will receive a small briefing before entering the jungle. Our expert guide will explain you many things about the rain forest and the wildlife in the jungle.And he will show you many different kind of plants and flowers. We will do a few resting while trekking for little picnic in the jungle by our indonesian lunch.On the menu is fried rice plus a variety of tropical fruits such as pineapple, watermelon, banana, orange and passion fruit for dessert. After lunch, we continue our jungle expedition watching the sumatran orangutan( pongo abelii ) and other animals while heading to the campsite. Upon arrival at the campsite you can go to the river for a swim or relax while enjoying tea or coffee. After dinner you can playing cards or make campfire with the team. If the weather is good we can go fishing in the river. We spent the night in the jungle, an amazing experience.
After breakfast we explore the area around the campsite for 2-3 hours. Or if you prefer you can stay at the riverside to observe the wildlife. There’s also a nice waterfall we can visit. We will have noodle soup and fruit salad jungle style for lunch. After our lunch we will raft back to the hotel by the traditional tube rafting. Rest of the day free for leisure.
Our expert guide will pick you up after breakfast around 09:30 am.The trip to Tangkahan is about 2.5 hours by jeep. On the way we can stop to see the oil palm plantations and a beautiful panorama view.
We will arrive in Tangkahan around 12:00.We walk to the hotel and have a lunch.After lunch we could swim in the river which is very clean and fresh, or we can also choose to go in the hot spring. In this place if you would like to jump in the river, there is a big rock.From this rock you can jump in.
We can walk down the river to visit some waterfalls.In these waterfalls we can take a bath or massage. Afterwards we can walk towards the top of the river to visit the beach butterfly.If we’re lucky we could see a lot of colorful butterflies, which are very beautiful at this beach.
Around 15:00.We go back to the car and drive to the elephant center to see the elephants. Around 15.30 we go to the river and give the elephants a bath about 1 hour , you will earn a good memories by the elephants.After Elephant bath finish we go back to our hotel.
Journey five hours to Medan/airport by AC car.

This is one of my favourite experiences yet. Not even 10 minutes in we saw Thomas monkeys, and not even an hour in we saw orangutans. In total we saw 5 adults and 4 babies!
It was great to explore the wildlife of Leuser Nationalpark. We highly recommand doing this tour with Marwan who is a super positive and experienced guide with a great heart and humour.
Marwan was really passionate about the jungle and the animals. We had great fun walking through the jungle together. In the evening, after the most delicious dinner, we would sing and speak sidiki bahasa indonesia.
Jungle trekking in Bukit Lawang was awesome, I did see one of orangutan with local guide Seger nice man. Gunung Leuser NP is very admirable. And jungle trekking by riding an Elephant in Tangkahan was so great
